Just a quick post to keep this journal active. And to say, I love that icon. :D Hi, Willow.
jianmei: (bliss by coricomile)
I just thought it would be kinda interesting. Close your eyes and pick five random books on your bookshelf and list them. And if you like, list what you're currently reading.

Here I go:

1.)The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo
2.)Wild Seed by Octavia Butler
3.)Beowulf translated by Burton Raffel
4.)Tolkien's World From A to Z: The Complete Guide to Middle Earth
5.)The Life of Pi by Yann Martel

And one of the books I'm working on right now:
Why Buffy Matters by Rhonda Wilcox

This is what happens when I'm bored.

Dude, I had no idea there was a new movie being made... This is great!
jianmei: (sid by cappagraphics)
Okay, so I've got a ton of pictures from my phone, but it's taking forever to upload them... and I was gonna wait and do this with the pictures, but I suppose I'll just write a short entry now.
So this weekend (last weekend?), my brother had a bowling tournament down in Roanoke, and my whole family went with him. Me too. It was kinda fun/kinda scary/a bit depressing. Fun stuff first!
(Oh, and I'd just like to point out that, I'm gone for three days and what do I find when I get home? Every single one of my favorite fics has been updated! I love it!)
Okay, know what? I've changed me mind, and I'm too hungry to do a huge lj-cutty post right now, and I don't even remember how to do an lj-cut (...), so I'm just gonna leave you with a picture. ^_^ And I swear I'll post more later, cuz I took a lot of pictures and I wanna share them!

Downpour, downpour, we abhor the downpour... Okay, rain = no fun. Rain = I had to cancel my haircut appointment. No haircut = grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

But besides that, I had a good weekend. Friday afternoon, listened to Brad play his guitar at Mason, which was fun. Friday night, listened to Bethy play her tuba at Mason. (Beth, you're awesome!) Saturday, made sweet music love with Laura and watched Sid and Nancy, which I kinda don't wanna give back to Netflix.
I dunno, I'm still kind of trying to decide if I like it or not. Apparently it's very fictionalized...and I hate Nancy most of the time... but I like Sid. So, if there was just Sid instead of Sid and Nancy, maybe I'd actually go out and buy it. I dunno, if I see it used somewhere I'll get it.
Sunday, helped out at a birthday party. 12 screaming 7-year-olds = scaaaaaary. 0_0
Oh, and the best part, Saturday night we got new cell phones, so now I have a camera phone and it's very pretty. Got a new TV, too. 27 inches, I think. It's very pretty.
Just watched the premiere of Kyle XY, the boy with no bellybutton... So far it's an interesting enough show. The script needs a little work, and his constant inner monologues when he's not supposed to speak English are a little annoying, but I might actually watch more of it... (And now I gotta go with the hurt/comfortyness of the birthdayverse!Angel icon, because there seems to be a slight theme tonight with vulnerable, slightly crazy guys... lol.)
And now I'm a bit sleepy. G'night, folks.
jianmei: (freaks and geeks by ctofine_iconic)
Okay, yeah, I know I never update with anything real anymore, but I've got a couple of funny links:

Star Wars Lego Symphony and Star Wars Cops.
jianmei: (angel and teddy by walknoline)
"Who Stole The Cookie From The Cookie Jar?" <-- Probably one of the cutest youtube videos I've seen...
jianmei: (kaylee by eternie_icons)
So I've had a fun last couple of days. ^_^

Japanese food and personal ads! )

Herndon Festival and Girlyman! )

Yanyway, methinks it's bedtime, so g'night all!
jianmei: (freaks and geeks by ctofine_iconic)
Which, naturally, being the insane Buffy geek that I am, made me think of the quote:
DAWN: I'm guessing on how you say it. It's got an apostrophe. I think it's MmmFashnik. Like "Mmm, cookies."
XANDER: Or maybe, Muh-Fashnik. Like Muh...(lamely) Fashnik.

Anyway, work makes me sleepy.
And bored.
Otani's makes me happy.
Yummy food!
Icons make me even more happy.
Pretty pictures!

I don't really feel like I'm at the "forming complete sentences" level of brain-functioning anymore...
Working 40 hours a week sucks...
And I haven't played my guitar in a week and now I feel incredibly guilty!

On the other hand, over the weekend I bought two new Bad Religion CDs (Stranger Than Fiction, and The Process of Belief), Never Mind The Bollocks - Here's the Sex Pistols!, To The Faithful Departed by The Cranberries, and a Ramones CD. (My Ramones CDs never seem to have actual album titles besides "Ramones"....) So, yay for cheap (on sale/used) CDs and new music!

And now I'm sitting here zoning because this is what I do when I'm not working/getting ready for work/driving to work... Hopefully sometime I'll be able to come up with a better entry than stuff like this...

(And, quick note, I'm becoming really annoyed with AIM because little video ads always start playing on my buddy list and they make NOISE! Anybody else?)

jianmei: (happy by the_hero_factor)
Okay, so I just upgraded to a sponsored account... Gonna have to get used to the adverts, but hey! More userpics! Gotta love it.

So, I went for a... 6-mile bike ride today, I think. It was actually pretty fun, apart from me being kinda sore now. It was a cross-county trail that was part dirt path through the woods, part gravel, and and part pavement. Went under the toll road at one point (there was a creek, so = bridge) and that was really cool. Just hearing the cars going over the bridge above me, sounded like thunder... There was graffiti all over the walls, too, and some people had written big monologues in sharpie over the graffiti. Didn't have much time to stop and read them, 'cause I had to keep up with my dad, but it was all this teen-angsty stuff. ^_^

Spoilers for X-Men 3 behind the cut )

And those were the highlights of my weekend so far. I'll leave you with a Gravitation music video that people keep sending me the link to... Really funny. ^_^

Proving that the Japanese are possibly the strangest people on the planet when it comes to entertainment: Morning Musume vs. Izamu the Lizard.

I'd like to add that the Japanese are also quite possibly the cutest people on the planet. Aya Matsuura performs the Totoro Opening and Ending Songs

Okay, so [livejournal.com profile] daitryk had a link on her lj to this hilarious commercial. I highly recommend watching it.

Okay, so in an hour and a half I'm gonna have my wisdom teeth taken out. Eeps... Kinda nervous about that. Also really hungry, cuz since I'm going to be sedated I can't eat or drink anything...
On a more positive note, I've gotten all my grades back from this semester and my cumulative GPA right now is 3.85, which I think is pretty damn good. So yay!
Went over to Laura's yesterday, and we wrote a new song. Well, it's still untitled and it doesn't have any lyrics, but we're working on it. It was cool, though, 'cause we played the whole song through and we just kept up with each other completely. Even did a fun fade-out thiing at the end. 'Twas great fun. Aaaand, she showed me this awesome website, Pandora.com. You search for a particular artist or song, and the website gives you similar artists that you might like. And it actually plays the whole song, not some thirty-second iTunes sample crap. It's really nice for finding new bands, especially for types like me who never listen to the radio and consequently have no idea of what's out there.
Anyway, wisdom teeth time. woot.

Alrighty, so I'm in the process of translating the transcript of the Firefly episode "Shindig" into Engrish. So far it's incredibly funny/slightly confusing. Teaser behind the cut. Rest of the episode later. )

Engrish

I just found an English-to-Engrish translator and it's so much fun...

I've got a bit of a problem. I'm thinking about dropping one of my language classes (Japanese or Latin), but I don't know which one to drop. See, at Mason, so far you can't major or minor in Japanese, so I would know it, and it would fulfill my languge requirement, but I couldn't really DO anything with it. Latin, on the other hand, you CAN minor in, but I'm not even sure if I want to do that. See, I like Latin because it's cool to figure out where words came from, since it's the base of the Romance languages and all, but I don't really want to take Roman Poetry and all of that other stuff...
And right now, there's this Asian American Women Writers literature course that I'm kinda interested in taking, but it's at the same time as my Japanese class. So I can't decide if I should drop Japanese and take that ('cause I still need another literature credit), or if I should keep going with both languages, or what...
Help...

Star Lords

Okay, for anyone who likes Lord of the Rings and/or Star Wars, you must see this. It's brilliant. And hilarious. Hilariously brilliant, in fact. Just watch it, it's worth it. ^_^
jianmei: (Default)
I just found the original unaired Buffy pilot. So, so scary. Watch it, 'cause it's worth it, but hide when Willow shows up. Okay, no, she's not that bad... but SO not the Willow of real Buffy.

*runs off to hug pictures of Aly Hannigan and erase scary Willow from my brain*

Okay, better now that I've seen this. It's Buffy credits using the Friends theme song. Gives off this completely different vibe than the actual Buffy credits, but it's hilarious.

Woah...

Okay, weird thing: I was just downstairs on the computer printing something, and talked to Laura briefly on AIM. Then I came back upstairs to my laptop, and there was a little AIM window open with everything Laura had just said on the other computer. None of my lines were there, though... I didn't know it could do that. Freaky...
jianmei: (Default)
Everybody's always online, but no one's ever actually around on AIM. We're all away all the time. And then sometimes someone will come back for like, two seconds, change their away message and go away again. What's the point of even being online, I wonder...?

Aaaaanyway, Latin homework is upstairs screaming at me to finish it, so...
